Bangladesh produces billions of T-shirts every year for brands across the USA, Canada and Europe. The country’s deep knitwear infrastructure — spinning, knitting, dyeing and stitching under one roof in many factories — makes it a natural home for custom T-shirt programs. Here is how the process works from tech pack to shipment.
Fabric and GSM selection
Most custom T-shirts use single jersey in 100 percent cotton or cotton-polyester blends. Key decisions include:
- Carded vs combed cotton: combed yarn is smoother and stronger; carded is more economical.
- GSM (fabric weight): 140–160 for lightweight fashion tees, 180–220 for premium heavyweight tees.
- Blends: polyester adds durability and print vibrancy; elastane adds stretch for fitted styles.
Your factory should send fabric swatches and lab dips for color approval before cutting begins.
Cutting and stitching
After dyeing and compacting, fabric is cut in layered spreads using your graded markers. Stitching typically combines overlock seams for the body with coverstitch hems for a clean, durable finish. Shoulder tape prevents stretching at the shoulder seam, and neck ribbing must recover its shape after stretching.
Printing, embroidery and finishing
Customization usually happens after the body is stitched: screen printing for bold graphics, embroidery for chest logos, or heat transfer for small detailed runs. Garments are then washed or pressed, checked against the approved sample, and packed to your specification — flat pack, hanger pack or polybagged with your branded labels and hangtags.
Timelines and quality control
A typical custom T-shirt order runs four to eight weeks from approved pre-production sample to shipment, depending on quantity and print complexity. Reputable factories run in-line inspections during stitching plus a final AQL inspection before packing, so confirm the inspection standard in writing before production starts.
Labeling and packaging
Private label programs need woven or printed neck labels, hangtags and care labels produced to your artwork. Confirm label placement and heat-seal temperatures so labels do not peel in the wash. Packing options include individual polybags, flat packing and hanger-ready packing for retail distribution centers.
